ResultsWENHAM, Mass. -- The University of New England placed all of its five scoring runners in the top 14 spots to claim the Pop Crowell Invitational at Gordon College on Saturday (Sep. 27) for a second consecutive year.
Big Blue posted a team total of 36 to best Wentworth Institute of Technology (52) and the host Fighting Scots (60). Salve Regina University (111) and Western New England University (151) rounded out the top five in the field of 13 institutions.
Junior
CJ Vallie led the Nor'easters' cause on the five mile course by placing 3rd among attached runners in a time of 28:09. Senior
Shane Murphy was the next to cross the line (4th) in 28:33, and sophomore
Paul Mangiafico clocked 28:43 to take 6th.
Seniors
Peter LePage (10th) and
Chad Lyons (13th) completed the scoring for UNE with times of 29:00 and 29:21, respectively. First-year
Jon Zalman also logged a top 20 finish, just two seconds behind Lyons in 14th position out of the field of 149 runners.
Unattached runner Nacho Hernando was the top individual with a time of 27:40.
The Nor'easters will resume their schedule on October 11 with an appearance at the James Earley Invitational hosted by Westfield State University at Stanley Park. The same day, a portion of the UNE team will compete at the Saint Joseph's College (Maine) Invitational.
