Box ScorePhoto GalleryBIDDEFORD, Maine -- Junior Jessica Scannapieco and sophomore Taylor Scialdone accounted for nine goals and five assists to power the Western New England University women's lacrosse team to a 19-11 win over the University of New England in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) match played Saturday afternoon (April 19) at the Big Blue Turf.
With the victory, the Golden Bears remain unbeaten (16-0, 7-0 CCC) with one regular-season contest remaining. Western New England will look to close out a perfect regular season when its hosts Gordon College on Wednesday (April 23). The loss drops the Nor'easters to 8-7 overall, 3-4 in conference play.
Scialdone had a game-high six goals to pace the Golden Bears' attack, and Scannapieco contributed three goals and four assists. Sophomore Bethany Peters scored three times, while senior Shelby Trebbe and junior Kaitlynn Stevens added two goals apiece.

After a goal by Smith made the score 3-2 in favor of Western New England with 10:57 elapsed, the Golden Bears rattled off six straight tallies over the ensuing 11:23 to assume control and take a 9-2 lead. Scialdone and Stevens had two goals apiece during the surge.
Newsome would find the cage for UNE to break the visitors' run, but WNE closed the frame with four of the next five goals to take a 13-4 lead into intermission.
Big Blue opened the second half with three consecutive goals to get within six (13-7), however the Golden Bears responded with a trio of markers to regain their nine-goal advantage with 22:20 on the clock.
Western New England would carry a margin of eight or more the rest of the way.
Aside from her seven points, Scannapieco was dominant on the draw, racking up 15 controls to go with six ground balls. Junior goalkeeper Emily Castleman stopped eight shots to earn the win.
Deedon played a strong all-around match for the Nor'easters, recording five draw controls and two caused turnovers. Sophomore
Courtney Kendall had eight saves.
UNE concludes its regular season Wednesday (April 23) with a 7 p.m. road game at Wentworth Institute of Technology.
