Rams remain unbeaten with 17-12 win over UNE

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. -- Christy Thoden and Alyssa Handel teamed up to score nine goals as the Farmingdale State College Rams kept their unblemished record intact with a 17-12 victory over University of New England in non-league women's lacrosse action Monday afternoon (March 17).

Thoden scored five times and Handel four to help fuel the attack for the Rams, who upped their record to 6-0 on the season. Kimberly Pepe, Nicole Marzocca and Lisa Olen talled two goals apiece. Jackie Kennedy and Janisha Sanchez added four and three assists, respectively.

For UNE, Hannah Tavella notched a team-best four goals, while Gina Newsome and Hannah Warren each accounted for a pair of markers.

Farmingdale State led from start-to-finish, jumping out to a 4-0 lead less than five minutes into the contest. After Big Blue scored three of the next four goals, the Rams strung together five consecutive scores to establish a 9-3 advantage. UNE would score four of the final five goals of the half to close to within three (10-7) at intermission.

The Rams maintained a lead of two or more goals the rest of the way.

Thoden played a strong all-around match for Farmingdale State, augmenting her five goals with seven ground balls, six draw controls and three caused turnovers. Goalkeeper Krista Spagnoletta piled up 17 saves to earn the win.

Jessica Deedon recorded a game-high seven draw controls for the Nor'easters (4-2). Shannen Healy led Big Blue with five ground balls, and Jocelyn Davee paced all UNE players with three caused turnovers. Goalkeeper Courtney Kendall stopped 14 shots .

The Nor'easters return to play Saturday (March 22) when they host Thomas College at 11 a.m.
