Winners of five straight, including a 5-4 triumph against the Nor'easters last night, the Mustangs improve to 7-2 on the year. Big Blue drops back to 3-7-1 with the setback.
After a scoreless 1st frame, Blackburn put the visitors in front at the 3:11 mark of the middle stanza, scoring from in close off passes from McKenzie Taggart and Tori Emoff.
Blackburn then doubled the margin with 24 seconds left on the advantage and 37 ticks left in regulation. Taggart and Brooke Webber recorded assists on the play.
Anastassia Nelson turned aside all 35 shots that came her direction in the Stevenson goal. The Mustangs will take the next three weeks off before hosting Hamline University (Minn.) on December 27 and 28.
For UNE, which returns to action on January 9 and 10 against Sacred Heart University at home,
Courtney Kendall made 34 saves.
