Box Score

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Saint Michael's College scored a goal in each period to earn a 3-2 win over the University of New England in an ECAC Men's East ice hockey game played Friday evening (Nov. 14) at Cairns Arena.

The win was the second in three starts for the Purple Knights (2-1), who evened their league record at 1-1. UNE dropped to the .500 mark at 2-2 overall, while slipping to 1-2 in ECAC East play.

Saint Michael's wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, getting a goal from William Cote at 1:37 of the first.

The Nor'easters would tie the score at 14:35 of the period when Tom Gildersleeve notched his first goal of the year, off assists from linesmates Jared Melman and Trevor Fleurent.

The Purple Knights scored the only goal of the second period, and once again did it at the outset of the frame on a goal by Eric Salzillo 1:46 in.

St. Mike's would get what proved to be a critical insurance goal at 14:30 of the third when Danny Divis scored on the power play.

UNE pressed late and pulled within a goal (3-2) on Christian Cordier's first collegiate tally at the 17:01 mark. The play was set-up by Gildersleeve and Fleurent.

Big Blue was unable to come up with the equalizer over the final three minutes despite out-shooting the Purple Knights 13-7 for the period.

Dave Donzanti stopped 28 of 30 shots that came his way to earn the victory, while Colby Drost turned aside 21 of 24 for UNE.

The Nor'easters will make the drive east to face Norwich University tomorrow. The game versus the nation's third-ranked team will start at 4 p.m.
