WATERVILLE, Maine -- The University of New England men's golf team took 3rd place out of four teams on Saturday (Oct. 4) at the Colby College Classic, a modified-format event played at Waterville Country Club.
Bowdoin College, led by the low round of 3-under-par 67 from Thomas Spagnola and Eric Giesler, totaled 209 to best the host Mules by 10 strokes (219). After the Nor'easters (221), Bates College rounded out the field at 225.
Like the Southern Maine Cup, the event format breaks away from the traditional style of collegiate golf and pairs teammates for an 18-hole round that consists of three sections -- six holes in the format of best ball, six holes of scramble, and six holes of alternate shot.
