Box Score

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. -- Erin Bibber and Nicole Matarozzo scored unassisted 1st-half goals to lift the University of New England to a 2-0 victory over Salve Regina University in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) field hockey action Saturday evening (Oct. 18) at Gaudet Field.

The Nor'easters (10-5, 8-1 CCC) have won the last five meetings and 10 of the previous 11 against the Seahawks (11-5, 4-5 CCC), and hold onto their half-game lead over Endicott College (7-1) in the CCC standings.

UNE will host the Gulls -- who dealt Big Blue its only CCC setback so far -- on Tuesday night (6 p.m.).

Bibber got the visitors on the board in the 17th minute, and Matarozzo doubled the cushion in the 26th minute. The pair are the top two goal scorers for the Nor'easters this season, with 12 and nine, respectively.

Big Blue out-shot its opponent, 9-5, in the opening period, and held that margin to the finish (18-14).

Holly Smith made six saves for her fourth shutout of the year in the UNE cage. Her counterpart, Salve's Murphy McCann, ended with three stops.
