Nor'easters 5th of 37 at James Earley Invitational

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- The University of New England men's cross country team finished fifth out of 37 entries at the James Earley Invitational hosted by Westfield State University at Stanley Park on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 11).

The Nor'easters were utilizing a split squad at the meet, with other team members participating at an event hosted by Saint Joseph's College of Maine.

The host Owls claimed victory with 55 points. They were followed by Williams College (93), Vassar College (126), Southern New Hampshire University (141), then UNE with a score of 173.

UNE's CJ Vallie placed eighth out of 388 finishers, posting an eight-kilometer time of 26:28. Shane Murphy (23rd - 26:47), Peter LePage (42nd - 27:10), Paul Mangiafico (48th - 27:18) and Jon Zalman (60th - 27:44) rounded out the scorers for Big Blue.

Cole Townsend of Williams was the individual champion, recording a time of 25:49.

UNE's entire team will be back together next Saturday for the State of Maine Championship in Farmington.
