BIDDEFORD, Maine -- First-year forward Jessica Kistabish tallied an unassisted goal in both the 2nd and 3rd periods to lead SUNY Canton to a 3-0 decision over the University of New England in women's ice hockey action Saturday afternoon (Jan. 25) at the Harold Alfond Forum.
The Kangaroos improve to 7-12-3 with the win, while the Nor'easters fall back to 5-10-4 on the year.
After a scoreless 1st frame that was even in shots (7-7), Kistabish got on the board midway through the middle period, taking a loose puck out of the right corner and putting in her 12th marker of the season.
Big Blue held an 11-5 edge in shots during the stanza, as well as four power play chances, but could not level the contest.
With 7:29 left in the 3rd, Kistabish made it 2-0 in favor of SUNY Canton, scooping up a turnover in the UNE zone and wristing in her second of the day.
First-year goalie Shayna Dominique turned aside 14 shots in the final session to keep the hosts in-check the rest of the way, and classmate Lora Ardoin tacked on an empty-net score in the final moments to provide the closing margin.
Dominique finished with 32 saves for the Kangaroos' shutout. SUNY Canton is now off until February 4 when it heads to Neumann University.
UNE -- which resumes its schedule on February 7 (7 p.m.) against Franklin Pierce University -- received 16 saves out of first-year netminder
