STANDISH, Maine -- The University of New England captured 10 of the 12 individual races to ease past Saint Joseph's College (Maine) by a score of 188-70 on Monday afternoon (Jan. 20) at the Harold Alfond Center.
Sophomores
Sara DeAngelo and
Rachael Romain, along with first-year
Eleni Bautz, each won two events to lead the way for the Nor'easters (6-3). DeAngelo topped the 100 butterfly (1:05.56) and 200 IM (2:25.19), Romain claimed the 400 IM (5:13.95) and the 500 freestyle (5:44.48), and Bautz took the 50 freestyle (27.54) and 100 freestyle (1:00.92).
Big Blue also received wins from senior
Alex Gabriels, juniors
Emily Zeimetz and
Kelly Dolyak, and first-year
Andrea Rybicki.
Gabriels and Rybicki both finished first in backstroke races -- the 50 (32.59) and 100 (1:11.93), respectively. Dolyak touched the wall ahead of the competition in the 200 freestyle (2:09.48), and Zeimetz won the 50 buttfly (29.69).
The Monks (1-7) got a pair of wins from Annie Fougere, which came in the 50 (37.51) and 100 (1:21.50) breaststroke events.
UNE hosts a tri-meet on Saturday (1 p.m.) with Colby-Sawyer College and Gordon College.
