Box Score

WINCHENDON, Mass. -- Jamie Wiley and Haylea Barbieri each scored a pair of goals to help lead the Franklin Pierce University women's ice hockey team to a 5-2 win over University of New England in non-league action Friday night (Jan. 17).

The Ravens (13-2-1) led from start-to-finish, jumping out to a 2-0 lead seven minutes into the game and never looking back. Barbieri and Wiley each notched markers to help Franklin Pierce to its quick start.

First-year Abby Kinens tallied her first collegiate goal at 15:37 of the first. The rookie forward knocked in a rebound after a scramble in front of the cage to cut the Nor'easters' deficit in half.

Franklin Pierce would scored the lone goal of the middle period when Barbieri picked up a rebound in the slot and converted for her fourth goal.

The Nor'easters got back within one (3-2) midway thru the third. With UNE down a skater, first-year Amy Curry fired a shot from the right point through a screen and into the net to record her first career tally. Senior Jenni Poulin and rookie Shannon Smith were credited with assists on the play.

Karsyn Baker would score less than two minutes later to push the Franklin Pierce lead back up to two (4-2), then Wiley tacked on a short-handed goal in the final minute to complete the scoring.

Shannon O'Neill upped her record to a perfect 7-0 in goal for the Ravens, totaling 21 stops.

UNE sophomore Samantha Scobee had a pair of saves for UNE before first-year Sydney Helmbrecht came on to record 24.

The home-and-home series will conclude tomorrow evening at 7 p.m when the Nor'easters serve as hosts at the Harold Alfond Forum.
