Pilgrims net two early en route to shutout of UNE

Box Score

HENNIKER, N.H. -- A pair of first-period goals proved to be more than enough offense for New England College, which picked a 3-0 win over the University of New England on Saturday (Jan. 11) in ECAC East men's ice hockey action at Lee Clement Arena.

Winners of four in their last five, the Pilgrims improve to 9-4 overall and 6-3 in league play. The Nor'easters slide back to 5-10-1 on the year (2-6 ECAC East).

The contest was scoreless for more than 16 minutes at the start, before NEC struck for all three of its goals in a stretch of eight minutes spanning into the 2nd period. Sebastian Anderson turned away 29 shots between the pipes to keep UNE off the board the rest of the way.

Scott Cornfield, Kevin Marceau, and Cheyne Matheson accounted for the Pilgrims' scoring.

Junior Colby Drost made 31 saves for Big Blue, which returns home to face Castleton State College next Friday (7 p.m.).
