Babson shuts out Nor'easters, 6-0

DEDHAM, Mass. -- Julie Ponchini scored a pair of goals to lead the Babson College field hockey team to a 6-0 win over the University of New England in a non-league match played Tuesday evening (Sept. 24) at Solomon Field located at Northeastern University's Dedham Campus.

The shutout was the second straight for the Beavers, who improved to 4-4 overall. UNE slipped below the .500 mark and now stands at 3-4.

With just over 16 minutes gone in the contest, Ponchini scored 23 seconds apart to give Babson all the offense it would need for the match. Both goals were unassisted, and the hosts took that 2-0 lead into intermission.

Morgan Lockwood re-directed a cross from Alex Cabreros for her sixth goal to give Babson a 3-0 lead less than seven minutes into the second half.

Staci Swallow, Caroline Malone and Kelsi McDougle each tallied their first goal of the season over the final 19:51 to give Babson its six-goal margin.

Kayla Florence registered four saves over the opening 59:09 to earn the victory in goal for the Beavers, who led 21-9 in shots.

Molly Linscott had nine stops for the Nor'easters, who take on Salve Regina University at Gaudet Middle School in Middletown, R.I. on Saturday (5:30 p.m.)
