BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England men's cross country team continued its strong start to the season with a second-place finish out of a field of 13 teams at its own invitational meet Saturday (Sep. 14) at Rotary Park.
Fueled by a 1-2 finish from Kyle Powers and Tyler Scheibenbflug, Lyndon State College came away with the team title, totaling 32 points to top the Nor'easters by 30. Salve Regina University (95) took the third spot.
CJ Vallie was the first UNE competitor to cross the finish line for the second consecutive week. The sophomore completed the 4.6 mile course in a time of 26:57 to place fourth. Junior Shane Murphy also cracked the Top 10 with a 27:52 effort.
Also scoring for Big Blue were junior Peter LePage (13th - 28:04), senior DJ Raboin (16th - 28:37) and Geoff Wahome (21st - 28:47).
The Nor'easters are back in action next Saturday (Sep. 21) when they head to Gordon College to take part in the Pop Crowell Invitational. Start time for the men's race is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.
