WATERVILLE, Maine -- Five different players scored as the Colby College field hockey team remained unbeaten with a 5-0 win over the University of New England in a non-conference match played under the lights at Bill Alfond Field on Tuesday evening (Sep. 10).
Erin Maguire had a hand in the first three goals for the Mules. She scored just 2:57 into the contest, then set-up the next two tallies -- one by Caroline Ferguson nine minutes later, and a goal early in the second half by Misha Strage.
Natalie Fischer and Caitlin Guiney would score in the final 20 minutes to give Colby a final margin of 5-0. Sarah Evans had four saves for the Mules, who led 21-6 in total shots and 14-6 in penalty corners.
First-year Holly Smith and sophomore Molly Linscott split time in goal for the Nor'easters (1-2). Smith allowed a pair of goals and made three stops in the first half, while Linscott came up with six saves and allowed three markers in the second frame.
UNE will play its home-opener Saturday (Sep. 14) when Castleton State College comes to Biddeford for a 2 p.m. match.
