BANGOR, Maine -- Liz Noddin scored after 1:47 of overtime to lift Husson University to a 3-2 victory over the University of New England in field hockey action on Sunday afternoon (Sep. 1) at the Winkin Complex.
The Eagles bounced back from a loss in their season-opener on Saturday settle at 1-1. It was the first contest of the year for Big Blue (0-1).
The teams played more than 26 minutes without any scoring until Sabrina Vaillancourt converted a pass from Mariah Arno. Husson then doubled its advantage moments after time expired in the 1st half, as a penalty corner play resulted in a goal by Britt Mellor.
Husson held a slim 10-9 edge in shots during opening period, despite UNE gaining more than twice as many penalty corners (9-4).
Big Blue began to attack more in the 2nd frame, and senior
Casey Clark put the visitors on the board in the 45th minute to cut the deficit in half (2-1). Classmate

Hannah Tavella to continue the rally and knot the game at 2-2.
Shots were 17-7 in favor of UNE during the stanza, forcing Husson netminder Maicee Gustin to come up with 11 of her 17 saves on the day to keep things level.

The Nor'easters are idle until next Saturday (Sep. 7), when they head to the University of Southern Maine for a 1 p.m. non-conference match.
