BEVERLY, Mass. -- With a three-goal cushion late in the 1st half, second-seeded Endicott College closed with 11 of the game's last 12 scores to defeat No. 6 University of New England, 19-6, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Women's Lacrosse Championship semifinal match played Wednesday afternoon (May 1) at Endicott Stadium.

The Gulls (11-7) advance to Saturday's title game at No. 1 Western New England University (a 19-15 winner over No. 4 Curry College). To view the championship bracket, click HERE.

Big Blue concludes its 2013 campaign with a record of 7-10.

After eight minutes of scoreless action, Endicott struck four times in a span of 2:33 to assume a 4-0 lead. UNE received goals from junior Johanna Currier and sophomore Gina Newsome by the 15:20 mark to cut the deficit in half, but Katie Tierney and Kelly Tierney sent in shots just 16 seconds apart with just inside 13 minutes left in the opening frame to restore the four-goal margin.

Sophomore Nikki Smith, junior Hannah Tavella, and senior Emily Lodge helped UNE stay within striking distance for most of the remainder of the period, trading scores with the Gulls until the difference was 8-5.

However, with 1:57 left before halftime, Kelly Tierney started a spurt of three goals that provided the hosts with an 11-5 lead at the break.

Aside from Tavella's second goal of the day with a little more than 11 minutes gone in the 2nd half, the final 30 minutes were controlled by Endicott.

Kelly Tierney paced Endicott with six goals, while Katie Tierney and Caitlin Pratt chipped in with three apiece. Rachel Campos and Holly Davis combined for 13 draw controls for the Gulls, who held a 22-5 edge in the category. Shots were 44-12 in favor of the home team, requiring EC goalie Rachel Socolow to make five stops for the win.

For UNE, Currier tallied a game-best five ground balls, and sophomores Hannah Warren and Macki Hill tossed in a pair of assists each. Between the pipes, first-year Courtney Kendall recorded 14 saves and established a new program single-season mark in the process, upping her total on the year to 211. Kendall had entered the day tied with Amy Williams from the 2005 season.

Newsome's marker in the early-going was her 150th career point, good for fourth place in the Nor'easters' records, passing Ruth Ness '05.
