BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Senior Holly Davis found the back of the cage eight times to pace Endicott College in a 20-9 victory over the University of New England in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's lacrosse action Tuesday afternoon (Apr. 16) at the Big Blue Turf.
The Gulls (9-5) remain unbeaten in conference play at 6-0, while the Nor'easters (5-8) slip back to 3-3 in league matches.
Endicott received an addition four goals from senior Kelly Tierney and three from classmate Caitlin Pratt. Another senior, Lauren Todd, ended with a pair of scores to go with two assists.
Junior Rachel Campos tallied the remaining goal for the Gulls, while collecting a game-best six draw controls. On the day, the visiting side finished with a 21-9 advantage in that category, and a 33-18 cushion in shot attempts.
Between the pipes, junior Rachel Socolow made seven stops.
For UNE, sophomore
Gina Newsome totaled three goals and an assist, and junior
Hannah Tavella tossed in a pair. Junior
Johanna Currier scored once, grabbed two draws, and registered a game-high three caused turnovers.
First-year goalie
Courtney Kendall posted nine saves.
Endicott's Davis started things off with two minutes gone in the 1st half, but Newsome responded at the 26:49 mark to level the contest at 1-1. Tavella scored with 18:25 on the clock to move the hosts in front (2-1), but a goal from Tierney and both of Todd's markers sparked a string of seven unanswered to leave the Gulls up by six late in the opening 30 minutes.
After Tavella made the difference 8-3 just before halftime, EC continued to extend the gap by netting seven of the initial nine scores of the 2nd period to assume a 15-5 lead.
Both teams play CCC games at home on Saturday. The Gulls welcome in Nichols College for a 12 p.m. date, while the Nor'easters are set to entertain Salve Regina University (4 p.m.).
