BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Sophomore Kristen Pingree (Georgetown, Mass.) and first-year Lauren Piotrowski (Wakefield, Mass.) each scored three second-half goal as Roger Williams University rallied from an 10-7 halftime deficit to take an 18-17 Commonwealth Coast Conference women's lacrosse victory over the University of New England Saturday (March 30) afternoon at the Big Blue Turf.
The win puts the Hawks at the .500 mark (4-4) for the season while improving their conference record to 2-0. UNE (3-5, 1-1 CCC) saw its three-game win streak come to an end.
Pingree finished with four goals for Roger Williams. Piotrowski and sophomore Samantha Davenport (Bethel, Conn.) scored three goals apiece, while juniors Danielle Neagle (Avon, Conn.) and Jessica Searl (Glastonbury, Conn.) and sophomore Kelsey Rahilly (East Longmeadow, Mass.) each chipped in with a pair.

Down three at the break, Roger Williams surrendered the opening two goals of the second half to fall behind 12-7. Piotrowski would tally three goals and Pingree added one over the next four minutes to get the visitors within one (12-11).
After Tavella's fifth goal of the afternoon pushed UNE's lead back up to two (13-11), the Hawks tallied three of the next four goals to square the contest at 14. Searl's goal with 15:19 remaining gave Roger Williams the lead for good, then Pingree sandwiched a pair of goals around another tally by Searl to push the Hawks' lead to 18-14.
UNE would challenge late, scoring three more times in the final 5:16 to get within one (18-17).
Roger Williams sophomore Mackenzie Logan (Sussex, N.J.) was dominant on the draw, racking up a total of 13 draw controls to help RWU lead 22-14 in that category. Logan added four ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Junior
Johanna Currier (Holderness, N.H.) had five ground balls and three draw controls for Big Blue, while senior
Nicolle Steel (Ocean City, N.J.) chipped in four draw controls, three caused turnovers and three ground balls.
Senior goalkeeper Justine Sullivan (Norwell, Mass.) had nine saves for the Hawks, while UNE first-year
Courtney Kendall (Waltham, Mass.) turned aside 11 shots.
Both teams return to play Tuesday (April 2). Roger Williams travels to Salve Regina University for a CCC match starting at 6 p.m. and the Nor'easters head to Bridgewater State University for a 6 p.m. non-conference tilt.
