Box Score

MANCHESTER, N.H. -- Saint Anselm College received goals from six different players, including two in the final 1:43, to secure a 6-3 ECAC East League win over the University of New England men's ice hockey team on Saturday (Feb. 16) at Sullivan Arena.

It was the regular-season finale for both teams, as the Hawks improved to 13-8-3 on the year (9-7-2 ECAC East). The Nor'easters drop to 6-16-2 overall, 4-13-1 in league play.

UNE will be the No. 7 seed in the upcoming ECAC East tourament that begins next Saturday (Feb. 23), heading to second-seeded UMass Boston. The official championship pairings will be announced later this weekend.

Saint Anselm led by one (2-1) after the 1st period, and carried that same margin into the 3rd, when goals by Mike Richard and John Hyslip made it 4-1 prior to the midway point of the frame.

The Nor'easters answered with senior Adam Laite (Howie Center, Nova Scotia) from sophomore Jared Melman (San Jose, Calif.) at the 10:24 mark, before the two reversed roles (Melman from Laite) with 1:57 left to reduce the deficit down to one (4-3).

However, Tyler Savage netted his first goal of the year just 14 seconds later for the Hawks to get some of the cushion back. Saint Anselm (Evan Gogonis) then added an empty-net goal in the closing moments.

Nick Dries made 24 stops to preserve the win for the hosts. The other two goal scorers for the Hawks in the 1st period were Liam McKillop and Sean Jenkins. Savage finished with a team-high three points (1 goal, 2 assists).

UNE's first goal -- sandwiched between the two for Saint Anselm in the 1st -- came off the stick of first-year Ryan Quinn (Burlington, Mass.). Both Laite and Melman recorded the first of their three points on the day with assists.

Big Blue sophomore Colby Drost (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) posted 26 saves for the visitors.
