SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- Skidmore College struck twice in a span of 102 seconds early in the middle period to jump in front for good, on the way to a 5-2 victory over the University of New England in the ECAC Men's East Hockey League opener on Friday night (Nov. 8) at the Saratoga Ice Rink.
The Thoroughbreds (2-0, 1-0 ECAC East) fell behind out of the gate, but tied things at 1-1 with under two minutes left in the opening stanza. It was then just 39 seconds into the 2nd frame that the hosts moved ahead.
Big Blue (1-1-1, 0-1 ECAC East) got back within one (3-2) midway through the contest, however Skidmore restored its two-goal cushion by the end of 40 minutes.
Skidmore's Vlad Gavrik capped his hat trick in the 3rd period to complete the scoring.
David Limogues and Aaron Beck each tallied a goal and an assist in support for the Thoroughbreds.
