Box Score

BRISTOL, R.I. -- Senior Casey Clark provided the University of New England with a 2-0 cushion early in the 2nd half, and first-year Brooke Marshall added a goal late to give the Nor'easters a 3-1 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) field hockey win in the regular-season finale Saturday afternoon (Nov. 2) at Bayside Field.

Running the table...
With its win over RWU on Saturday, the Big Blue field hockey team became the third program at UNE to complete a regular season of CCC play undefeated since the Nor'easters joined the conference in 1999-00. The others to do it:
~Women's Basketball, 2012-13 (18-0)
~Women's Soccer, 2011 (8-0-1) & 1999 (11-0-1)
Winners of seven straight, the Nor'easters (14-5, 12-0 CCC) will enter the CCC Championship on Wednesday (4 p.m.) as the No. 1 seed, hosting fourth-seeded Nichols College in the semifinal round.

Clark got things going just 2:17 into the match, converted a feed from Marshall. The 1-0 margin was still in place at halftime, as the Big Blue defense completely shut down the Hawks, who did not register a shot or a penalty corner in the opening 35 minutes.

Moments after the 2nd period began, Clark struck again, this time off a pass from senior Hannah Tavella.

Roger Williams did manage to break up the shutout in the 47th minute, when Hailey Wolfe caromed a shot off a UNE defender and into the cage.

But the Nor'easters continued to control play, and Marshall from Tavella padded the lead in the 61st minute.

First-year Holly Smith earned the victory in goal for Big Blue, which finished with a 21-2 advantage in shots and 19-0 cushion in corners.

Melora Lavoie posted 12 saves for the Hawks, who wrap up their inaugural season with an overall mark of 5-14 (0-12 CCC).
