Big Blue finishes in top half at NCAA Regional

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Capping what has been an outstanding 2013 season, the University of New England men's cross country team finished 22nd out of a field of 50 teams at the NCAA Division III New England Regional hosted by the University of Southern Maine at Narragansett School on Saturday (Nov, 16).

Williams College (57 points) followed-up the winning performance by its women's team to sweep the regional, besting Middlebury College by eight points. MIT was third with a score of 75. The Nor'easters totaled 664 points.

Sophomore CJ Vallie put the finishes touches on a breakout season, leading the way for UNE with a time of 26:47 to place 104th. Junior Shane Murphy (27:12) and senior DJ Raboin (27:13) were next for Big Blue, placing 131st and 133rd, respectively. First-year Paul Mangiafico (143rd - 27:30) and junior Peter LePage (162nd - 27:49) rounded out UNE's scoring contingent.

Senior Geoff Wahome (203rd - 28:39) and rookie Jordan Stebbins (216th - 28:52) also competed for Big Blue.

Connecticut College's Michael LeDuc was the individual champion, circling the eight-kilometer loop in a time of 24:21.
