GORHAM, Maine -- The University of New England men's golf team bettered its score from Round 1 of the University of Southern Maine Fall Classic by eight strokes on Monday (Oct. 7) at Gorham Country Club to end up in seventh place among the nine competing teams. The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth held on to edge Endicott College for the title.
With a 36-hole total of 609 (300-309), the Corsairs narrowly defeated Endicott (610), which closed with 299 to land in second. Husson University (611) had 310 on Monday to claim third place. USM (617), Saint Joseph's College (633), and Saint Anselm College (642) took spots four through six on the final leaderboard.
Brendan Kelleher (UMD) and Mike Caron (SJC) shared the low individual total in the event at 144 (+2).
For the Nor'easters (644), sophomore
Paul Butkevich finished up with a 76 for a two-day total of 157, matching senior
Mat Brown (157), who shot 79 in the final round. First-year
Ryan Mahoney (162) carded an 81 for the second straight day, while junior
Jared Melman (168) completed the UNE day-two score with an 82. First-year
Sam Kinasewich (169) ended with an 83 on Monday.
