WATERVILLE, Maine -- The University of New England men's golf team registered a score of 211 to wind up in 3rd place at the Colby Classic, a modified-format event played Saturday (Oct. 5) at Waterville Country Club.

Despite scoring better than the previous two seasons (213 in 2011; 234 in 2012), the Nor'easters could not make it a three-peat in the event, as Bowdoin College came in with a 206 total to claim the title. Bates College took second place at 209.

The University of Maine Presque Isle (216), Colby College (219), and Thomas College (236) rounded out the six-team field.

The annual event features a different format than most competition, with team scores generated from three pairs that go out to play six holes of best ball, six of scramble, and six of alternate shot. Coming in with the lowest round of the day (66) was Thomas Lilly and Kevin Amozyuski of Bowdoin.

For the Nor'easters, sophomore Paul Butkevich and first-year Ryan Mahoney came in with a 1-under-par 69. Big Blue then received 71's from the duos of Andy Emery / Sam Kinasewich and Mat Brown / Jared Melman.

UNE gets right back on the course Sunday, beginning the two-day USM Fall Classic at Gorham Country Club.
