AUGUSTA, Maine -- The University of New England golf team finished in a tie for fifth place Friday (Oct. 4) at the Maine Maritime Academy Invitational held at Augusta Country Club.

Husson University posted a score of 302 to edge the University of Southern Maine by a stroke. The host Mariners (312) were third, followed by Bates College (327). UNE and UMaine Presque Isle each posted aggregate scores of 329 for the event, which consisted of eight teams.

Senior Mat Brown and first-year Sam Kinasewich paced the Nor'easters with 78's. Sophomores Paul Butkevich and Dan Nadeau finished at 86 and 87, respectively, while senior Andy Emery shot 91.

Bill Hutchins of Husson and Tom Murray of Southern Maine tied for medalist honors with 3-over rounds of 73.

The Nor'easters are back at it tomorrow when they head to Waterville Country Club for the Colby College Classic. Start time is noon.
