Box Score
BIDDEFORD, Maine -- University of New England senior co-captain
Casey Clark (Franconia, N.H.) scored twice in the final 7:20 to help rally the University of New England past Endicott College, 3-2, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) field hockey match played under the lights at the Big Blue Turf on Wednesday evening (Oct. 30).
With the win, the Nor'easters remain perfect in conference play at 11-0 while winning for the sixth consecutive outing to improve to 13-5. Endicott now stands at 8-10 overall, 5-6 in CCC matches.
With her team trailing 2-1 and time winding down, Clark evened the score with just under eight minutes to play when she put home a goal after a drive from just outside the arc by junior
Kayla Lambert (Bedford, N.H.). Senior
Hayley LaPointe (Topsham, Maine) got a stick on Lambert's drive and was credited with her team-leading 12th assist of the year.
Clark would provide the winning margin with just under three minutes remaining. After a feed from senior
Hannah Tavella (Putnam Valley, N.Y.), Clark swept home the pass from the left doorstep to notch her fifth game-winner of the year.
Endicott started quickly, getting on the scoreboard at 8:09 of the first half. Junior Emily Sawchuk (Cumberland, Maine) found senior Amanda Glynn (Hampton, N.H.) with a centering pass, and Glynn's one-timer struck the bang board to give the Gulls a 1-0 advantage.
Endicott's lead was short-lived, however, as UNE junior
Hannah Warren (Harrison, Maine) put home a rebound in the 15th minute to level the match at one.
Sawchuk gave the visitors a 2-1 lead with just under 10 minutes remaining in the half, converting an opportunity from about eight yards out for her 14th marker of the season.
It would appear that tally might be the difference until Clark went to work in the closing stages.
For the match, UNE led in both shots (18-12) and penalty corners (14-9). Big Blue rookie goalkeeper
Holly Smith (Peabody, Mass.) saw her streak of 372 consecutive scoreless minutes played come to an end but finished with three saves to up her record to 13-3.
Senior Lizetta Solarik (Carmel, N.Y.) had eight stops for the Gulls, who host Western New England University on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Nor'easters will be looking to finish off their first unblemished CCC regular season when they head to Roger Williams University for a game beginning at 4 p.m. That contest was originally scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
