BREWSTER, Mass. -- Bettering its Round 1 score by two strokes, the University of New England men's golf team came in with a 332 in Round 2 of the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship on Monday (Oct. 28) at the Captains Course. At 666 for the event, the Nor'easters shared 15th place in the field of 22.
Western New England University finished in first place among the Division III programs competing, recording 616 (300-316). Husson University (311-308) was second at 619, and the University of Southern Maine third at 624 (308-316).
UNE received its low weekend round from first-year
Sam Kinasewich (159), who closed with a six-over-par 78. Sophomore
Paul Butkevich (166) had 82 on day two, while seniors
Mat Brown (172) and
Andy Emery (175) each fired 86. First-year
Ryan Mahoney (171) shot 88 in the final round.
Big Blue ended in a tie with Babson College (337-329).
The low individual total over the 36-holes came from Joseph Leavitt of Rhode Island College with a 143 (71-72).
With the conclusion of the Fall season, the Nor'easters are now off until late April (26-27), when the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) champion will be determined for a spot in the NCAA Championship.
