Yogerst powers No. 5 Tufts past Nor'easters

Box Score

MEDFORD, Mass. -- Senior Chelsea Yogerst tallied a program-record five goals to lead nationally-ranked Tufts University to a 7-1 non-conference field hockey win over the University of New England on Thursday (Oct. 10) at Bello Field.

The Jumbos -- defending national champions and the No. 5 team in the latest NFHCA Top 20 Poll -- improve to 8-1 on the year. With the end of their four-game win streak, the Nor'easters dip back to 7-5 overall.

Yogerst scored the first five markers for Tufts, helping the hosts establish a 4-0 cushion at the halftime break. After UNE got on the board just over two minutes into the 2nd period, Yogerst struck again 33 seconds later. In doing so, she eclipsed the previous school single-game mark for goals that was established back in 1979.

Dominique Zarrella and Dakota Sikes-Keilp added scores later in the final stanza to complete the scoring.

For the Nor'easters, it was junior Erin Bibber with her seventh goal of the season, off the eighth assist of 2013 from senior Hayley LaPointe.

First-year Holly Smith turned in a season-high 12 saves for Big Blue, which was out-shot by a 30-4 margin.

Bri Keenan and Carrie Cook each made one stop in net for Jumbos, who resume NESCAC play on Saturday (12 p.m.) versus Connecticut College.

UNE gets back to CCC action the same day (1 p.m.), with a home date against Roger Williams University.
