BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Junior Ben Chwick (Purchase, N.Y.) of Colby College tied things up with 5.9 seconds left in regulation as the Mules and the University of New England skated to a 2-2 overtime draw on Tuesday (Jan. 29) at the Harold Alfond Forum.
Colby now stands at 3-13-2 with the result, while UNE is 5-13-1 overall.
The Nor'easters had held the advantage (2-1) from the middle of the second period, when sophomore
Jared Melman (San Jose, Calif.) put in a tough-angle shot while moving across the left circle. Classmates
Zeth Zielinski (Woonsocket, R.I.) and
Chris Glover (McFarland, Wisc.) assisted on the power play goal.
Even with an extra skater for the final minute of the third period, the Mules were unable to penetrate the UNE defense for a try at goal until Chwick took it up the left wing from his defensive zone for the tying marker.

Ian Edwards (Linden, Mich.) turned in six of 27 saves to keep the match even.
On the other end of the ice, sophomore Jordan Nathan (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) made 21 stops for the Mules.

Nick Kolb (Virginia Beach, Va.) on the power play to give the Nor'easters a 1-0 edge just past the midway point of the initial period.
Colby used a power play to level things (1-1) before the first intermission, as junior Nick Trepp (Greenwich, Conn.) recorded his first goal of the season with 3:35 left in the opening 20 minutes. Sophomore Ray Zeek (Wallingford, Conn.) and junior Jack Bartlett (Lynn, Mass.) tallied assists on the play.
The Mules are back at home on Friday for a date with NESCAC-foe Hamilton College (7 p.m.).
UNE is off until Saturday, when it heads up the road to face the University of Southern Maine for an ECAC East contest at 4 p.m.
