Box Score

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The Saint Michael's College Purple Knights scored five goals in the second period -- four in a span of 2:14 -- to earn a 5-1 ECAC Men's East ice hockey victory over the University of New England Nor'easters Saturday (Jan. 26) afternoon at the Harold Alfond Forum.

The win gave the Purple Knights (6-12, 3-9 ECAC East) their first league weekend sweep of the season after defeating the University of Southern Maine, 5-4, Friday evening. UNE suffered its fourth consecutive setback to fall to 5-13 overall, 3-10 in league play.

Senior Josh Geary (Wellesley, Mass.) had a hand in four of Saint Michael's five goals, scoring three times and setting up another marker. Sophomore William Cote (Quebec City, Quebec) and first-year Kevin Altidor (Montreal, Quebec) each had a goal and assist for the Purple Knights, who led 35-17 in shots on goal.

After a scoreless first period, Saint Michael's established control with back-to-back short-handed goals. Geary's first tally came at the 4:44 mark, then Altidor followed just 20 seconds later.

The barrage continued for the visitors as Geary and Cote found the cage 28 seconds apart to cap the Purple Knights' outburst.

Saint Michael's would extend its lead to 5-0 at 18:41 of the second when Geary finished off his hat-trick with a power-play goal.

The Nor'easters avoided a shutout late in the third, as first-year Sam Vikich (Vancouver, British Columbia) poked home a rebound off a Russ Franey (York, Maine) slapshot from the point. Sophomore Nick Kolb (Virginia Beach, Va.) received a secondary assist on the score.

Senior goaltender Mike Dizgun (Montreal, Quebec) registered 16 saves for Saint Michael's, which hosts Saint Anselm College Friday at 7 p.m.

Sophomore Colby Drost (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) had 30 stops for the Nor'easters, who were whistled for nine penalties, compared to two for the Purple Knights.

UNE hosts Colby College Tuesday evening for a non-league game starting at 7 p.m.
