Harris powers Spartans to victory over UNE

Box Score

RUTLAND, Vt. -- Josh Harris accounted for half of the offense for Castleton State College, as the Spartans skated to an 8-1 ECAC Men's East League win over the University of New England hockey team Friday evening (Jan. 18) at Spartan Arena.

Castleton improved to 4-0-1 in its last five outings and now stands at 10-5-2 overall (5-4-1 ECAC East).

The Spartans assumed a 6-0 cushion early in the 3rd period, to which point Harris and teammate Ben Schoeneberger had scored all of the goals for the hosts. Both players also assisted on CSC markers late in the final frame. Justin Alonzo helped fuel the attack with five assists.

UNE's lone tally came with 5:44 left in the contest, as junior Sean Sullivan (Worcester, Mass.) found the back of the net off passes from senior Adam Laite (Howie Center, Nova Scotia) and junior Zach Lokey (Elizabethtown, Pa.).

Shots were 48-23 in favor of Castleton State for the game, leading to a 22-save night by Erick Cinotti for the victory between the pipes. His counterpart, Nor'easters sophomore Colby Drost (Franklin Lakes, N.J.), turned aside 40 shots.

The Spartans welcome in the University of Southern Maine on Saturday, while UNE (5-10-0, 3-7-0 ECAC East) heads into New York for an afternoon date (4 p.m.) against Skidmore College.
