UNE wins fourth straight, 119-77, over Gordon

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Junior Jenn La Comfora (Worcester, Mass.) won a pair of events to lead a balanced University of New England effort, as the Nor'easters defeated Gordon College, 119-77, in a women's swim meet Saturday (Jan. 12) at the Campus Center.

The Nor'easters, who opened up a 29-4 lead after just two events, won their fourth straight outing to improve to 5-1 on the season. Gordon is winless in 10 starts.

La Comfora won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 27.90 and was victorious in the 100-yard butterfly, besting the rest of the competitors with a time of 1:06.61.

Sophomore Kelly Dolyak (Cheshire, Conn.) and first-years Sara DeAngelo (Hamilton, N.J.) and Sam Briggs (Oakland, Maine) also earned individual victories for UNE. Dolyak was first in the 1000-yard free (11:41.00), DeAngelo first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:16.88), and Briggs won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:00.44.

Briggs also teamed with senior Meaghan Arsenault (Methuen, Mass.), sophomore Emily Zeimitz (Rochester, N.H.) and first-year Rachael Romain (Rockford, Mich.) to win the 200-yard medley relay (2:03.22).

First-year Emily David (North Kingston, R.I.) earned a pair of victories for the visiting Fighting Scots, finishing first in both the 200-yard individual medley (2:26.22) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:05.50).

The Nor'easters return to action tomorrow when they host St. Joseph's College at 1 p.m. Gordon has a 10-day layoff before taking on UMass Dartmouth on Jan. 22.
