Bantams skate to 7-3 decision against UNE

Box Score

HARTFORD, Conn. -- The Trinity College women's ice hockey team gained a 4-2 edge with just four seconds left in the middle frame to separate itself from the University of New England on the way to a 7-3 victory Friday night (Jan. 11) at Williams Rink.

After falling behind 2-0 at the 5:49 mark of the second period, the Nor'easters answered to get on the scoreboard just 28 ticks later. First-years Kayleigh Trepanier (Lebanon, Maine) and Marissa Clifford-Biederman (Lee, N.H.) set-up junior Jenni Poulin (Pembroke, N.H.) to make it 2-1, and then Trepanier leveled the contest following another 30 seconds of action (6:47) with a goal of her own. Rookie Ali Putney (Guilford, Conn.) assisted on the play.

The Bantams moved back in front on the power play seven minutes later, before adding a fourth score at 19:56 of the period to grab a two-goal cushion heading into the 2nd intermission.

Trinity went up 5-2 early in the third stanza only to see UNE first-year Shannon Reynolds (Belmont, N.H.) net an unassisted power play goal less than three minutes later to keep the visitors within striking distance. A pair of shorthanded markers for the home side as the period progressed extended the gap to the final margin.

Seven different players scored for the Bantams (5-4-3), with Emily Kleidon, Abby Ostrom, Lucy Robinson, Rebecca Rosen, and Emma Tani each recording a goal and an assist. Beth Hitchcook posted eight saves to earn the victory between the pipes.

For UNE (1-8-0), first-year Samantha Scobee (Minnetrista, Minn.) turned away 35 shots in goal.

Big Blue is now off until January 26 and 27, when it faces the University of Rhode Island in a home-and-home set beginning in Kingston, R.I.
