BIDDEFORD, Maine -- First-year Cheeky Herr (Princeton, N.J.) scored three goals to lead the Trinity College women's ice hockey team to a 10-0 shutout of the University of New England in a non-league game played Thursday (Jan. 10) evening at the Harold Alfond Forum.
The win snapped a four-game winless streak for the Bantams, who evened their record at 4-4-3. UNE dropped to 1-7 versus varsity competition.
Sophomore Lucy Robinson (Toronto, Ontario) had two goals and two assists for Trinity, which received one goal each from senior Britney Ryan (Highlands Ranch, Colo.), junior Abby Ostrom (Carlisle, Mass.), sophomore Lauren Fitzgerald (Milton, Mass.) and first-years Elizabeth Caporale (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Emma Tani (Orange, Calif.). Tani, Caporale and Ostrom also added two assists apiece, as did first-year Brooke Heron (South Salem, N.Y.).
Trinity put the game out of reach early, scoring four times over the opening 15 minutes. The Bantams would go on to tally three goals in both the second and third periods. For the game, Trinity held a commanding 42-5 advantage in shots on goal and were cited for zero penalties.
Junior goaltender Alexa Pujol (New Cannan, Conn.) played the first frame in goal to earn the win. She was relieved by senior Beth Hitchcock (Glencoe, Ill.).
First-years
Samantha Scobee (Minnetrista, Minn.) and
Courtney Kendall and junior
Kristi Holt (Willington, Conn.) combined to make 32 stops for the Nor'easters.
Both teams take on one another again tomorrow at Trinity. Game time in Hartford is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
