BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Powered by Top 10 finishes by junior
Nate DiMartino (Hilton, N.Y.) and sophomore
Shane Murphy (Glastonbury, Conn.), the University of New England men's cross country team placed third out of 11 teams at the 2012 UNE Invitational held at Rotary Park on Saturday (Sep. 8) morning.
On the strength of the top three finishers, Lyndon State College recorded an impressive team score of 27 to distance itself from second-place University of Southern Maine (46) and third-place UNE (60).
DiMartino continued his strong start to the season, finishing sixth with an eight-kilometer time of 29:40. Murphy placed one behind with a time of 29:46. Sophomore
Chad Lyons (West Rutland, Vt.) was the third member of the Big Blue squad to finish, placing 12th at 30:23.
First-year
CJ Vallie (Nashua, N.H.) was 16th at 30:45 and classmate
Gabe Turner (Portland, Maine) 23rd at 31:12 to round out the scoring runners for UNE.
Josh Grant of Lyndon State repeated as the individual title winner, circling the course in a time of 28:38.
The Nor'easters have a week off before competing in the Elms College Invitational on Sep. 22.
