WATERVILLE, Maine -- The University of New England golf team posted an aggregate score of 234 to win the Colby College Classic on Saturday (Sep. 8) afternoon in the team's season-opening event at Waterville Country Club.
The annual event features a modified format to the usual standards, with each squad putting forth three, two-man teams to go play six holes of best ball, six of scramble, and six of alternate shot. Colby College finished a stroke back at 235, followed by UMaine Presque Isle (237) and UMaine Machias (267). The Nor'easters defended the title they won a year ago.

Paul Butkevich (Pomfret Center, Conn.) teamed up to shoot a team-best 74 to lead the way for the winners. Junior
Mat Brown (Charleston, Maine) and sophomore
Jared Melman (San Jose, Calif.) carded a 76, while junior
Tyler Moody (Augusta, Maine) and first-year
Troy Eaton (Amesbury, Mass.) rounded of Big Blue's lineup with an 84.
UNE gets back into action Thursday (Sep. 13) at the UMaine Farmington Invitational to be held at Sunday River Golf Club in Newry.
