UNE takes 8th at Pop Crowell Invitational

WENHAM, Mass. -- The University of New England placed four runners in the top 60 on its way to a final score of 246 and the eighth position out of the 25 teams competing at the Pop Crowell Invitational men's cross country race hosted by Gordon College on Saturday (Sep. 29). Bates College finished first in event with a total of 61.

Westfield State University (70), Franklin Pierce University (105), Lesley University (109), and the University of Southern Maine (168) rounded out the top five.

Sophomore Shane Murphy (Glastonbury, Conn.) led the Nor'easters for the second straight weekend, offering a 27:24 on the 8-kilometer course to end up in 29th place overall. Junior Nate DiMartino (Hilton, N.Y.) came in 50th in the 275-runner field with a time of 27:58, while sophomore Chad Lyons (West Rutland, Vt.) and CJ Vallie (Nashua, N.H.) wound up in 55th (28:02) and 56th (28:03), respectively.

Rookie Gabe Turner (Portland, Maine) provided the final placing for the team total, finishing 88th in a time of 29:05.

Big Blue heads to Westfield State for the James Earley Invitational next Saturday.
