GORHAM, Maine -- The University of New England men's golf team totaled 217 to finish in the runner-up position Friday afternoon (Sep. 28) at the modified-format Southern Maine Cup. Tournament host USM won the event, which was played through the rain and cold temperatures at Gorham Country Club, with a score of 211.
Each team broke up into two-man pairs for the day, playing six holes in the format of best ball, six holes of scramble, and six holes of alternate shot.
The University of Maine Farmington (224) and Saint Joseph's College (241) were the other two squads in the field.

Tyler Moody (Augusta, Maine) and first-year
Troy Eaton (Amesbury, Mass.) carded the low round of the afternoon for the Nor'easters, coming in with a one-under-par 70. Junior
Mat Brown (Charleston, Maine) and sophomore
Jared Melman (San Jose, Calif.) recorded a 73, while junior
Andy Emery (Winthrop, Maine) and first-year
Paul Butkevich (Pomfret Center, Conn.) rounded out the team total with a 74.
Two combinations for the Huskies went low to split the medalist honors, each carding a 69.
Big Blue gets back to it on Monday when the Nor'easters welcome five other teams to Cape Arundel Golf Club for the UNE Invitational. First tee time is slated for 10 a.m.
