CHICOPEE, Mass. -- Sophomore Shane Murphy (Glastonbury, Conn.) finished in 5th place on Saturday (Sep. 22) behind four Babson College runners at the Elms College Invitational, helping the University of New England men's cross country team to a runner-up showing out of the nine competing teams. The Beavers won the event -- that was held at Chicopee Memorial State Park -- with a score of 23.

In the team standings, Big Blue (52 points) beat out Gordon College (89) for third place, while Sage College (117) and Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (117) rounded out the top five squads.

UNE first-year CJ Vallie (Nashua, N.H.) crossed the line just outside the top 10 (11th) in 29:25, and sophomore Sean Hanrahan (Amston, Conn.) completed the team total (25th) with a time just shy of 31 minutes.

Babson sophomore Mark Gulesian pulled away from the crowd to the individual title, rounding the 8k course in 26:30 to win by 97 seconds.

The Nor'easters run at the Pop Crowell Invitational (hosted by Gordon) next Saturday (Sep. 29).
