Nor'easters fall just short at CCC Golf Qualifier

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Despite posting their best team score of the season, the University of New England Nor'easters placed fifth out of six golf teams at the Commonwealth Coast Conference Qualifying Tournament held at Veterans Golf Course on Thursday (Sep. 20) afternoon. The top four finishers - Western New England University, Endicott College, Nichols College and Wentworth Institute of Technology advance to participate in the two-day CCC Invitational this coming April.

Western New England posted a winning score of 301, followed by Endicott at 309 and Nichols at 314. Wentworth (320), UNE (323) and Roger Williams (354) rounded out the field.

Graduate student Tyler Moody (Augusta, Maine) was the low UNE player, carding a six-over round of 78. First-year Paul Butkevich (Pomfret Center, Conn.) posted an 80, while junior Andy Emery (Winthrop, Maine) had an 81. Sophomore Jared Melman (San Jose, Calif.) and junior Mat Brown (Charleston, Maine) finished with rounds of 84 and 85, respectively.

Eric Hedberg, John Roy and Steven Langlois -- all of Western New England -- shared medalist honors at 75.

The Nor'easters compete again this weekend at the Maine Intercollegiate Championship to be held at Val Halla Golf Course. Start time both Saturday and Sunday is scheduled for noon.
