Box Score
BIDDEFORD, Maine -- First-years Megan Fortier (Falmouth, Maine) and Ellie Donohue (Andover, Mass.) scored goals within the first two minutes, and Donohue added another later as Colby College picked up a 3-0 shutout against the University of New England in non-conference field hockey action Wednesday evening (Sep. 19) at the Big Blue Turf.
The win was the second straight for the Mules (2-2), while Big Blue drops back to 3-3 on the year.
Just 1:18 into the match, Fortier tucked home a rebound at the left post to put the visitors in front, and then Fortier set-up Donohue just 20 seconds later to double the margin.
Colby junior goalkeeper Michelle Burt (Woodbridge, Conn.) saw five of UNE's 10 shots in the opening frame, and turned each one aside. For the game, Burt posted 10 saves, including a sliding stop early in the second half to deny a fast break coming in from her left.
Donohue got credit for a second marker just over two minutes into the final period, getting the slightest touch on a drive from the edge of the arc off the stick of sophomore Caroline Keaveney (Greenwich, Conn.).
The Nor'easters finished with advantages in both shots (16-10) and penalty corners (13-5), but were held off the scoreboard the entire night.
Colby heads to Tufts University for a NESCAC matchup on Saturday (1 p.m.).
UNE, which received three stops from sophomore
Kaitlyn Warren (Boscawen, N.H.), completes its six-game homestand on the same day (12 p.m.) with a CCC showdown against Gordon College.
