CASCO, Maine -- University of New England sophomore Jared Melman (San Jose, Calif.) carded an 83 to lead the Nor'easters to a fifth place finish on Tuesday (Sep. 18) at the John Queenan Memorial hosted by Saint Joseph's College (Maine). Husson University posted a team total of 312 to earn a 30-stroke victory in the event, which was held at Point Sebago Golf Club.

It marked the sixth win in the last seven seasons at the tournament for the Eagles (minus 2010, when UNE won), and was the second time in the last four that the final margin was 30 strokes. The University of Southern Maine (342) and UMaine Farmington (345) ended up in second and third, respectively.

William Hutchins of Husson was the medalist with a two-over-par round of 74.

After Melman, first-year Paul Butkevich (Pomfret Center, Conn.) carded an 87 and junior Andy Emery (Winthrop, Maine) came in with a 95. First-year Troy Eaton (Amesbury, Mass.) rounded out the team score (362) with a 97.

The Nor'easters get back at it on Thursday at the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Invitational, to be played at Veterans Golf Course in Springfield, Mass.
