Nor'easters finish in 3rd at CCC Spring Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- The University of New England men's golf team posted a two-day total of 661 to place third out of the four team field competing at the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Invitational, played Saturday and Sunday (Apr. 28-29) at Veterans Golf Course. Endicott College captured the title with a score of 628.

Western New England University (632) and Nichols College (670) were the other two teams in the field. The Gulls total of 319 in Round 1 was enough for a one stroke edge over the Golden Bears at the midway point.

Sophomore Mathew Brown (Charlestown, Maine) was the low Big Blue player at 163 (84-79), while first-year Jared Melman (San Jose, Calif.) came in one back at 164 (80-84). Melman led the Nor'easters on Day 1 of the event.

Sophomore Andrew Emery (Winthrop, Maine) recorded an eight-shot turnaround from the first round to the second, ending up with a 170 total (89-81). Sophomore Tyler Moody (Augusta, Maine) and senior Gage Robertson (Freeport, Maine) rounded out the UNE squad with 171 (87-84) and 172 (82-90) totals, respectively.

Western New England's Eric Hedberg earned the medalist honor with a two-shot victory at the 154 total (10-over-par).
