Big first half leads UNE to 16-7 win over UMass Dartmouth

Hannah Warren found the back of the cage on four occasions to help lead Big Blue

CLERMONT, Fla. -- The University of New England women's lacrosse team raced out to a 12-1 cushion over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth by halftime, en route to a 16-7 non-conference victory Monday evening at the National Training Center.

Sophomore Hannah Tavella (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) and first-year Hannah Warren (Harrison, Maine) each scored four times for the Nor'easters (5-2), who won for the third straight outing.

First-year Gina Newsome (Danbury, Conn.) added two goals and five assists for a game-high seven points, and sophomore Gina Iannazzi (Methuen, Mass.) chipped in with three scores. Senior Jenna Barton (Wolfeboro, N.H.) finished with two goals, while first-year Rachel Schwaner (Holderness, N.H.) recorded one.

UNE sophomore defender Johanna Currier (Holderness, N.H.) tallied two assists, in addition to forcing five caused turnovers.

All three goalies in uniform saw time between the pipes. Sophomore Samantha St. Pierre got the decision playing the initial 20 minutes, before giving way to classmate Rachel Lee (York, Maine), who made three stops in 26 minutes.

First-year Irene Bloomer (Brewster, Mass.) finished up for the Nor'easters, who return to Maine mid-week to prepare for the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opener on Saturday (1 p.m.) against Curry College.

For the Corsairs (2-2), Taylor Corsano notched three goals and collected four draw controls. Angelina Donovan made seven saves in goal for UMass Dartmouth, which was out-shot by a 30-15 margin.
