NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth captured 10 of 14 women's swimming events to defeat the University of New England, 162-118, on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 3) at the Tripp Athletic Center.
Junior
Jenn La Comfora (Worcester, Mass.), sophomore
Kelly Dolyak (Cheshire, Conn.), and first-year
Sam Briggs (Oakland, Maine) each won individual races for the Nor'easters (1-1).
UNE also claimed the 200-yard freestyle relay on the backs of seniors
Meaghan Arsenault (Methuen, Mass.) and
Rachel Hanley (Wiscasset, Maine), sophomore
Emily Zeimetz (Rochester, N.H.), and first-year
Sara DeAngelo (Hamilton, N.J.).
La Comfora touched the wall in 29.30 for the 50 butterfly -- 0.26 seconds ahead of the Corsairs' Morgan Cooper. La Comfora was also a close second in the 200 IM with a 2:22.05, just 0.54 ticks off the pace set by UMD swimmer Caroline Cochran.
Briggs got the best of Cooper for her win as well, posting a 26.68 in the 50 freestyle to finish first by 0.16 seconds.
Dolyak's triumph came in the 1000 free, where she clocked an 11:42.43 to win by nearly 25 seconds.
The closest event of the day involved Arsenault (32.21) and UMass Dartmouth's Meredith Maki (32.10) in the 50 backstroke.
The Nor'easters will open their home campaign next Saturday (Nov. 10) when Simmons College comes to Biddeford for a 1 p.m. meet.
