WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Sophomore
Chad Lyons (West Rutland, Vt.) placed 14th overall to earn all-ECAC accolades, and the University of New England men's cross country team finished 11th out of 43 teams at the ECAC New England Championship held at Mt. Greylock High School Saturday (Nov. 3) morning.
The Nor'easters totaled a score of 347 in the deep field for perhaps their strongest performance of the year. Amherst (44) edged Bates (54) by 10 points to take the team title. Host Williams was third at 84 points.
Lyons ran a 5:28 pace to finish at 27:09 over the 8,000-meter loop. Sophomore
Shane Murphy (Glastbonbury, Conn.) finished in the Top 50, placing 36th with a time of 27:45.
Rounding out UNE's scoring runners was the trio of first-year
CJ Vallie (Nashua, N.H.), junior Daniel Raboin (Lunenburg, Mass.) and first-year
Taylor Vogt (Bow, N.H.). Vallie was 68th (28:31), Raboin 100th (29:05) and Vogt 133rd (29:50).
Sam Haney of Tufts was the individual champion, covering the course in 26:23 to tip Todd Ford of Williams by three seconds.
UNE wraps up its season next Saturday (Nov. 10) at the NCAA Division III Regional to be held at Westfield State.
