AMHERST, Mass. -- UMass scored a pair of first-period goals on its way to a 2-1 victory over the University of New England in a women's ice hockey game played Friday (Nov. 2) evening.
Down 2-0, the Nor'easters cut their deficit in half with a little over three minutes remaining in the first when first-year
Marissa Clifford-Biederman (Lee, N.H.) found the cage for her fourth goal in UNE's two games. Classmates
Jenni Poulin (Pembroke, N.H.) and
Kayleigh Trepanier (Lebanon, Maine) were credited with assists on the play.
The first-period scoring was it on the evening, as both teams were unable to get the puck into the net in the second and third frames.
Goaltender
Samantha Scobee (Minnestra, Minn.) made a total of 51 saves for the Nor'easters, who face UMass again tomorrow at 6 p.m.
The game was the fifth of the season for UMass and the second versus club competition for UNE. Big Blue opens its varsity schedule next Saturday (Nov. 10) with a home date with Nichols College.
