UNE ends with 27th-place showing at regional

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- The University of New England men's cross country season came to a close Saturday (Nov. 10) as the Nor'easters finished 27th out of 50 teams at the NCAA Division III New England Championship hosted by Westfield State University at Stanley Park.

Team champion honors went to Middlebury College (91 points), which claimed a 10-point victory over Bowdoin College. Bates College placed third with a score of 105.

Sophomore Chad Lyons (West Rutland, Vt.) offered a Top 100 effort for the Nor'easters, blistering the eight-kilometer course in a time of 26:48 to grab the 87th spot. Classmate Shane Murphy (Glastonbury, Conn.) ran second for UNE, placing 140th with a time of 27:41. Also cracking the first 200 runners was first-year CJ Vallie (Nashua, N.H.), who was 189th (28:34).

UNE also received solid performances from sophomore Ben McGinnis (Barnstead, N.H.) and junior Daniel Raboin (Lunenburg, Mass.). McGinnis placed 213th and Raboin 238th with times of 29:16 and 29:59, respectively.

Bowdoin's Coby Horowitz won a sprint to the finish to edge teammate Samuel Seekins by just nine-tenths of a second to take the race.

The Nor'easters posted an overall record of 129-68 for the year.
