WESTFIELD, Mass. -- At the James Earley Invitational hosted by Westfield State Saturday (Oct. 6), the University of New England finished 17th out of 40 full-team entries on the course that will serve as the site of the NCAA New England Regional next month.
The Nor'easters totaled a score of 512. Middlebury College (23 points) breezed to victory. The Panthers were followed by Amherst College (111) and Connecticut College (140).
Sophomore
Chad Lyons (West Rutland, Vt.) was the first UNE runner to cross the line, placing 61st with a time of 27:53. Classmate
Shane Murphy (Glastonbury, Conn.) was two seconds behind Lyons in 65th place.
Also scoring for UNE were juniors
Nate DiMartino (Hilton, N.Y.) and Daniel Raboin (Lunenberg, Mass.), and first-year
Gabe Turner (Portland, Maine). All three cracked the Top 200 in the field of 429 runners with times of 29:19, 30:02 and 30:05, respectively.
Middlebury senior Jack Davies ran the course in 25:40 to claim the individual title.
The Nor'easters will compete in the Maine Intercollegiate Championship next Saturday (Oct. 13). The event, hosted by the University of Southern Maine, gets underway at 11 a.m.
